Ranking transparency

How Curated Spot rankings work.

Every Top list uses the same published logic: profile quality and reviews create the points, then the Spot’s relevance to that exact category decides how much of that score counts.

01 · Eligibility

One Spot can belong to several Top lists.

A Spot can be considered for every category and amenity that describes it. A café can therefore appear in Coffee, Wi-Fi, Outdoor Seating, Date Night or any other relevant ranking at the same time.

Every Top list is separate. The Spot’s percentage for Coffee affects only its Coffee ranking; its Wi-Fi or Outdoor Seating percentages are applied independently in those rankings.

Selection is not a guarantee.Choosing an amenity does not guarantee inclusion or a position. The Spot must be public, match the selected area and genuinely fit the category. Curated Spot may verify, correct, merge or remove inaccurate details.

02 · Review points

The rating sets the base. The source sets its weight.

The values below come directly from the active Score Points Rules in Curated Spot.

YelpReview from Yelp× 1source weight 03 × 13 pts

The source factor applies to negative points too. Lower-star reviews can therefore reduce a ranking score, and a stronger source multiplier increases that reduction as well as increasing positive points.

03 · Category relevance

Points count in proportion to the Spot’s match.

Example category match30%Coffee

100profile + period review points×0.30Coffee match=30Coffee ranking points

A 30% Coffee match means 30% of the Spot’s available points count in the Coffee ranking. The same Spot may match another category differently and therefore have a different score and position there.

04 · Ranking periods

Month, season, and year are separate competitions.

01

Month

Uses qualifying reviews from that calendar month and the latest details about the place.

02

Season

Uses the published seasonal date range and produces its own standings.

03

Year

Uses eligible reviews from that calendar year and is ranked independently.

Live rankings can move. Scores may change while a period is active as place details, reviews and moderation decisions change.

Final rankings are snapshots. At the end of a period, Curated Spot may finalize the standings and issue the applicable badges or awards.

When points are tied.Curated Spot compares review points for the period, review count and how closely each place matches the category, in that order. If everything is still equal, a consistent final ordering is applied.

05 · Integrity and enforcement

Fair rankings require enforceable rules.

Manipulation hurts visitors, legitimate businesses, and the meaning of every Curated Spot award.
